Despite rhetoric from Washington promising deeps cuts in non-defense discretionary spending, the 2017 Omnibus Appropriations Bill passed last week by both the House and Senate preserves education funding. With the exception of programs set to expire under the 2015 Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), most other discretionary expense categories received funding at prior levels. Some key program areas, such as Title 1 and funding for charter and magnet schools, saw funding increases.
This comes as good news to schools who rely on Federal education funding to help fund SmartLab programs.
