SmartLabs Providing New Opportunities for Tukwila Students

Creative Learning Systems recently partnered with Tukwila School District (WA) to implement SmartLabblog-35 programs at three district schools. These programs are core elements of the district's STEAM initiatives.

Located near Sea-Tac International Airport,Tukwila School District serves a diverse school community. About 40% of district students qualify for English Language Learner services and approximately 80% are eligible for free and reduced school meals.

The district's goal is to provide learners with early exposure to STEAM experiences to prepare them for academic and career opportunities in high school and beyond.

“Once the kids have been introduced to (STEAM at the elementary level), as they get to middle school, the concepts and the application increase in rigor,” said Vivian Palmer, the district’s Executive Director of Accountability, Assessment and Technology. “By the time they get to the high school, they will be better informed as to which (career) pathway they want to take.”
